PSL -Birth
PSL was launched in 2015 by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) , which was with the first season played in February 2016. It was designed to bring a high quality franchise -based cricket to Pakistan, designed for other successful ligans such as the Indian Prizes League (IPL). The goal was simple: Raise Pakistan's domestic cricket, provide a platform for local talent and restored the country's long -term love for the game.
franchise system
PSL began with five franchisees representing larger cities: Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Lahore Kalandar, Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators. A sixth team began in Multan Sultans, 2018. These teams are privately owned and run, many global sports franchisees, and they take it out of each season for the prestigious PSL trophy.
Each team has a mix of local Pakistani talent and international stars, providing a unique taste and global appeal to the tournament. Players like Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi and Shadab Khan have become house names, while international stars such as Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers and Dale Stan have brought their nature to the league.
